A new modern-day classic! This mouthpiece is the creation of professional saxophonist Tom Alexander, famous for bringing us his line of premium reeds. Having immersed himself in the field of jazz throughout his career as a player, Tom later collaborated with some of the world’s leading saxophonists including Joe Henderson, David Liebman, Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, Bob Berg, Branford Marsalis and more in conjunction with his reeds. Educated through many valuable experiences he had with these masters, Tom began to dream of embarking on a project to design what he felt might be a mouthpiece which could not only retain tonal qualities of great vintage pieces, but ones with more flexibility, versatility and better performance in present day playing situations.
Description
This mouthpiece is capable of producing a large, focused sound from the bottom range and on up to altissimo, with greater punch and projection, an even scale and enhanced upper register. Its large chamber supports a full, rich, warm body in the tone, yet one achieved without tubbiness or stuffiness. It also generates a well-defined harmonic edge and balanced resistance. Further, the precise facings and the mouthpiece’s resonant shell allow a player to use a more open tip with ease and this gives the potential to create both a larger sound and a wider dynamic range.
The facing range is no. 7, 7*, 8, 8*, 9, 9*, 10 & 10* (favoured by Joe Lovano) and other facings may be available by special request. The Superial I Jazz Tenor is milled from the finest-grade German hard rubber bar stock on 5-Axis CNC machinery which enables great precision from piece to piece. Each mouthpiece is machined and hand-finished in the U.S.A. and comes with a logo'd Midnight Blue velvet pouch. Its attractive box firmly nests the mouthpiece and also can function well for touring.
