COSIMO POMARICO

After finishing his studies at the Genoa Conservatory, COSIMO POMARICO immediatly joined the orchestra of the Carlo Felice Theatre as principal clarinettist.
In 1949 he took part in the international competition held in Buenos Aires for the formation of a National Symphony Orchestra, coming out first as clarinet soloist.
His performances at the Colon Theatre of Buenos Aires included the South American premieres of Aaron Copland and Paul Hindemith’s clarinet concertos. The success of these performances won him fame in the whole of South America, where he was engaged as a soloist with numerous orchestras.
His frequent chamber music recitals helped to familiarize the public with the entire repertory of works written for his instrument. He returned to Italy in 1960 and since then he has been 1st clarinettist for the RAI and “Pomeriggi Musicali” orchestras in Milan, the “Società dei Concerti” in Cagliari and the AIDEM of Florence.
Cosimo Pomarico has also taught at the University of La Plata and the Conservatories of Cagliari, Perugia, Verona and Milan.
He is dead in 1990.
